New “perspectives” for the environment, the employees and society: Symrise releases 2009 CSR report

Holzminden, Germany, June 16, 2010

Fragrance and flavoring manufacturer Symrise is publishing its sustainability report for the year 2009 under the title of Perspectives. Symrise will now be documenting the progress of its CSR work during the year in this combined corporate magazine and traditional CSR report. This change is in line with the globally active company's evolving strategy for the areas of social and ecological responsibility.

With its wide range of nutrition and body care products, Symrise is a tangible part of many people's everyday lives. This proximity to people carries with it a particular responsibility, one which Symrise takes very seriously. CSR thus plays a vital role in both the Symrise corporate strategy and the day-to-day work within the Group.

Environment, employees, society and economy are the four areas in which Symrise undertakes concrete sustainability activities; these provide the Company with a framework for defining goals by which success can be measured. Accordingly, Symrise's primary CSR objectives are Caring for Nature, Respecting People, Serving Society and Securing Success. CSR activities at Symrise are thus highly varied, ranging from the use of renewable resources to energy-saving technologies, talent management programs and nutrition projects for children.

For fiscal year 2009, the Company has given its CSR report a new look, paralleling the evolution of the Symrise CSR strategy. The aim was to develop something new without departing entirely from the type of report seen in the last few years.

In May 2010, Symrise brought out the first issue of Perspectives. The brochure features a magazine section with articles, interviews and interesting pieces about the Company's various CSR activities. The main topics include diversity, the newly opened Competence Center for Health & Nutrition, white biotechnology and the investments in the key raw material vanilla.

This magazine section is supplemented by the traditional report section, which presents the "hard facts" on the implementation of the CSR strategy.

"Social and ecological responsibility has always been a very high priority for Symrise as a worldwide leading company in the fragrance and flavorings industry. We have already achieved a lot in recent years, including the more efficient use of natural resources, combined with a reduction in emissions, and the communication of guidelines on healthy nutrition for children and young people" explains Dr. Helmut Frieden, Corporate Vice President Corporate Compliance. "The clearly defined guidelines and topics comprising the revised CSR strategy enhance transparency and play an important role in our long-term business success. The report provides intriguing insights into the issues that are, and will remain, important for Symrise and the society we are part of."

The current issue of Perspectives is available for download as a PDF file at www.symrise.com in German and English, and printed versions may be ordered from info@symrise.com.
