The lecture topics reported on actual trends and drivers in the European household laundryand care market, on performance testings of machine and hand dish detergents, on an update on disinfectants under the BPRoptions and of the revision of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Current issues in laundry hygiene at low washing temperatures andthe occurrence of ß-lactamases in washing machines as well as of microbial loads in food-associated appliances were discussed.By means of a model for a smelly washing machine, the appearance of malodor in washing machines can be simulated, so thatby microbiota analysis a strain selection and identification of fungi and bacteria becomes possible.
