Emerald Kalama has appointed Wendy Herbst as Vice President and General Manager leading the organization’s Consumer Specialties business. In this role, Herbst will be responsible for the strategic direction and all commercial and operational aspects of the business globally.

“There have been major shifts in consumer markets in recent years; regulatory drivers and consumer preferences are changing the landscape for many manufacturers and ingredients. As a result, Consumer Specialties needs agile leadership that can guide the business with responsiveness and flexibility,” said Edward Gotch, CEO of Emerald Kalama Chemical.

Gotch continued, “Wendy is great at recognizing unique opportunities and skillfully responding to new objectives, which has made her an excellent leader and strategic planner in all of her endeavors with Emerald. This makes her a great fit for this next chapter with Consumer Specialties.”

Herbst joined Emerald in 2014 and most recently led Emerald’s Antioxidants and Accelerators (AOA) business as General Manager. She has nearly 20 years of experience in marketing and sales for specialty materials, including roles at Arizona Chemical, Eastman and the Sherwin-Williams Company.  She earned an M.B.A. in marketing from the University of Phoenix and a B.S. in business administration from the University of Wisconsin.

With Herbst’s transition to her new role, Scott Neuheardt, Vice President and General Manager for Emerald’s Industrial Specialties business, will additionally assume leadership for AOA’s portfolio, while continuing to lead Industrial Specialties.

Emerald’s Consumer Specialties business offers trend-forward solutions in antimicrobials, aromatics, flavors, fragrances and multifunctionals. The company’s portfolio of ingredients is trusted by many global brands for its high quality, value and consumer-friendly profile.

These products bring performance to foods, beverages, cosmetics, household care products, perfumery, pharmaceuticals, animal feed and agrochemicals. Herbst will focus on growing and optimizing the business in these markets, identifying new opportunities and launching new offerings.

Emerald hasalso  appointed Kelly Pippine as Vice President, Marketing and Technology, a new role focused on driving innovation, building growth strategies for key markets and leading product stewardship.

“Kelly’s new role will create greater alignment and leadership for marketing, regulatory, research and development. In the past few years, we have been focused on introducing new offerings, realizing growth in key markets and driving brand trust and reputation. Kelly has been an instrumental part of the success of these initiatives. In her new role, she will be positioned to build on that momentum and set the stage for continued growth,” said Edward Gotch, CEO of Emerald Kalama Chemical.

Pippine has more than 20 years of marketing, commercial and technical experience in specialty materials. She joined Emerald Kalama Chemical in 2016, most recently serving as Global Marketing and Strategy Director. In her prior role, she was already working closely with Emerald’s product stewardship and technical teams, securing the success of new offerings, identifying growth opportunities in key markets and liaising with regulatory agencies and NGO’s.

For example, a core initiative for the company in 2019 was the launch of Kalaguard® SB preservative for home care. Pippine worked with Emerald’s teams to map the market landscape, achieve BPR approval, develop a suite of applications data and cement Kalaguard as the best available solution for formulators seeking new alternatives in preservation.

“This is just one of many projects where we can draw a line between its success and Kelly bringing her insight and drive to the team,” Gotch said.

Pippine has also held previous roles with Celanese and The Dow Chemical Company. She earned a master's degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and corporate strategy from the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business, as well as a B.S. in material science and engineering from Michigan State University.
