Extens, the first French fund dedicated to healthcare software publishers, Clearsight, a Swiss investment fund, and Coptis, a leading publisher of software for cosmetic laboratories, are joining forces to expand the company's operations.
Established in 1999 by Anne Karagoz, Coptis develops and markets specialized software to support cosmetic laboratories and raw material manufacturers in the formulation and regulatory compliance stages. Coptis' solutions enable the cosmetics industry to efficiently manage development projects, reduce time to market and improve the quality and accuracy of the data. In addition to this software suite, Coptis offers high value-added services that enhance its customers' performance through a global regulatory database, a database of toxicological information on more than 3,000 substances, and a document database on more than 15,000 cosmetic raw materials.
Located in France at Croissy-sur-Seine, Coptis operates on three continents (Europe, North America and Asia), has nearly 30 employees and generates 40% of its revenues internationally. The Coptis software suite, available in seven languages, currently supports about 400 companies in some 40 countries.
Unlike its mainstream competitors, Coptis' signature product, Coptis Lab, is a specialized business software. Coptis regularly brings together members of its User Club to discuss their needs, thus keeping the software suite in step with evolving field requirements. This close approach and understanding of the industry has enabled Coptis to establish its leadership position in this growing and constantly developing market.
For the first time, Coptis is opening up its capital to Extens, which is making the second investment of its third fund currently being raised, and Clearsight, in order to accelerate its commercial and technical development planning. Coptis enjoyed great success with the North American and Asian markets, stemming from the 2008 opening of a subsidiary in New York, and then in Singapore in 2016. On the heels of these victories, Coptis, now accompanied by Extens and Clearsight, aims to accelerate its deployment in these very dynamic markets, and consolidate its position as a leader in Europe. This capital increase will also enable the company to develop its range of products by integrating new components into the existing software suite.
Anne Karagoz, President of Coptis, comments: "I have chosen to Extens to support Coptis in the next stages of its development, and to help it thrive more rapidly in its own markets, as well as new markets. Why Extens? Because it is a fund dedicated to business software publishers and because the problems of publishers are very similar, even when the markets are different. I also appreciate the Extens Club, which brings together the different company managers to discuss shared problems, which is what our customers do in the Coptis Users' Club. I sincerely believe that Extens and Clearsight will contribute to the success of Coptis in the coming years.
Valentine Deramecourt, Investment Director at Extens, adds: "We are very pleased with this partnership with Anne, who has been able to create and develop a company that is recognized and trusted by its customers for more than twenty years, who value the strong suitability of its software suite for field requirements in a fast-growing market in France and internationally. Coptis has significant assets to consolidate the market position, and recognition it enjoys in France, at the international level; while relying on its influence in the forty or so countries where its customers are present.
Jakub Crhonek, Managing Partner at Clearsight stated: “Anne has built an incredible market-leading business and we are honoured to be able to assist in the next phase of evolution leveraging our international networks and synergies with our existing portfolio.”
Coptis is at the forefront of software for cosmetic laboratories and has been on the market for over 20 years. Coptis has offices in France, the United States and Singapore. Its signature product, Coptis Lab, is a cosmetic formulation software that manages the entire development of a cosmetic product, from the marketing brief to the regulatory file. It allows the cosmetics industry to efficiently manage development projects, reduce time to market, improve the quality and reliability of information and ensure product compliance with the regulations in effect. Coptis has a team of 30 people, primarily in the domains of chemistry and computer science, who ensure the constant improvement of its products. This is further guaranteed by Coptis’ cosmetic expertise, its User Club and recommendations coming straight from the customer base. All improvements made to the software suite are integrated as standard for the benefit of all users, making Coptis a leader in the cosmetics industry.
Coptis Lab is effectively supported by high value-added databases:
