CosmeticBusiness will once again be presenting the latest trends in cosmetics development, manufacturing and packaging in Munich from 14 to 15 June. This year's edition promises an even wider selection of inspirational, innovative products, in particular where ingredients are concerned. A third of the 350 exhibitors and represented companies from 25 countries are suppliers of active and other ingredients. The exhibit area will be more extensive than in previous years and include many new exhibitors. Thematic routes and an informative conference programme round out the offerings.

At CosmeticBusiness, the international trade show for cosmetics manufacturing and packaging, visitors can find out more about the wide variety of ingredients. The spectrum ranges from active ingredients and fragrances to oils, fats, waxes and natural extracts. Hall 2 and the Start-up Area in the Innovation Corner of Hall 4, with their wide range of ingredients exhibitors, will be particularly inspiring for developers, as they include numerous exhibitors from the field of ingredients. Exhibitors will include established manufacturers such as Provital, Sederma and Seppic, as well as major distributors such as Azelis, Brenntag and Stockmeier and numerous new exhibitors such as Berg + Schmidt (oleochemistry), All Organic Treasures GmbH (organic ingredients) and the Danish start-up Cellugy. The number of specialists exhibiting in the area of ingredients has grown by one-third compared to last year's trade show.

Our comprehensive Exhibitor and Product Directory will help you plan your visit. You can use various filters to conduct a targeted search for product groups, countries and topics of interest, even in advance.

With exhibitors from more than 25 countries, international variety is guaranteed. Exhibitors from Germany will be joined in Munich by others, primarily from Italy, France, China, Poland, Switzerland and the Netherlands. This makes the international trade show the perfect place to expand supply networks and learn about the latest international developments.

Sustainability as a Key to Success

According to the representative Global Sustainability Study 2022 by consulting agency Simon-Kucher, the sustainability trend in cosmetics and personal care is expected to continue, despite current inflation concerns. Results of the study show that brand loyalty is considerably higher for beauty products than for other daily necessities. Alongside packaging, production and raw materials sourcing were the most significant sustainability factors for respondents.

Accordingly, Danish start-up Cellugy took inspiration from nature to develop a biofabricated cellulose called EcoFLEXY. The rheology modifier provides an alternative to fossil-based plastics and synthetic chemicals in the cosmetics and personal care industry. EcoFLEXY is also biodegradable and heat resistant to over 100 degrees Celsius.

Sederma promises a purely natural approach to pigment disorders with Melostem, which is effective for both dark and light pigment disorders. The new ingredient is manufactured using an extract of scarlet beebalm (Monarda didyma).

Anti-Ageing With the Power of Nature

One additional continued trend can be identified among the many new products slated for presentation at CosmeticBusiness: anti-ageing. MC Beauty Science, for example, is banking on the power of the sea to combat wrinkles with its new marine ingredients. According to the manufacturer, Osmocean Phycoskin is the first cooperative active well-ageing cosmetics ingredient made from marine holobionts, which combat cell ageing. Their active ingredient Viwa, which is derived from fermenting a newly-identified variety of the marine bacteria Alteromonas lipotrueae, is used to relax expression lines.

Provital is investing in anti-ageing dermohacking with Hollyhock. The new active ingredient Altheostem is based on Hollyhock stem cells and is 100 per cent derived from natural sources. According to the manufacturer, it selectively eliminates cellular senescence, thereby modulating the death rate of certain skin cells. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the active ingredient reduced the perceived age of participants by more than three years, the company states.

Improved Stability Tests Thanks to AI

The international software company Coptis aims to use AI to improve complex stability tests in the formula development process. It will present the new research programme it has started for this at CosmeticsBusiness, in which the company has expanded its PLM software Coptis Lab to include an AI function aimed at predicting a formula's stability in advance. The precision of the AI prediction is expected to increase as more data becomes available. The integrated learning database is continually expanding as more formulas and stability test results are added.

Information about all the new products, along with images, can be downloaded from the website at https://www.cosmetic-business.com/en/media/novelties/

Conference Programme Highlights Innovations and Practical Examples

At the accompanying conference programme, top speakers will discuss current industry topics such as sustainable innovations in cosmetics, introduce new products and provide diverse practical examples.

Professor Jessica Freiherr from the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging will present new research findings on the effects of fragrances. Using various examples, she will demonstrate the psycho-physiological effects of fragrant ingredients can be measured and evaluated in order to gain valuable information to guide product development and increase market acceptance.

Market research company Ecovia Intelligence's presentation will focus on sustainable innovations in the cosmetics industry, examining various approaches such as the ethical sourcing of raw materials, green formulations, energy management and sustainable packaging.

The opportunities and challenges of upcycled ingredients are the focus of the presentation "Upcycling for the Mass Market - 'no planet b' Makes it Possible". In his presentation, Sebastian Wölke, co-founder of the dm cooperation brand no planet b, will share his enthusiasm for the growing trend of upcycling with attendees.
