The 2023 annual report of IKW about the German personal care market confirmed once again that hair care is the biggest segment in Germany, before skin care and make-up. Performance is a key element in hair care success stories, but sophistication of hair care products in terms of textures and routines are playing an important role in the development of new and trendy products.
Confirming its expertise in active ingredients for hair, Seppic has been completing its hair care offer with an ingredient designed to address the hair fiber as well as the scalp. Inspired by the "skinification" trend (taking care of its scalp like its skin), XYLISHINE™ C, an ingredient based on seaweed & sugar derivatives complex technology, acts holistically on scalp moisturization and hair cuticle repair.
The sugar-based technology allows first to address the problems of dry scalp. Indeed, sugars are well-known structures for having moisturizing benefits on skin. Even if the scalp has its specificities, it remains very similar to skin. It differs in the abundance of hair follicles, and thus in abundance of microcirculation and innervation, in the size of the hairs, and in the number and volume of the sebaceous and sweat glands. An in-vivo test on 20 volunteers with a dry and sensitive scalp was conducted during 28 days. Each volunteer applied a shampoo containing 3% Xylishine™ C every three days or a placebo. The measurements of the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and ceramides content revealed, respectively, a +42% increase of water retention and +27% ceramides content as well as a significant persistent effect 1 week after stopping the application. This study proves therefore a very good performance of the sugar-based complex on the dry scalp, even in rinse-off applications!
On the other hand, when it comes to hair fiber, Xylishine™ C has many benefits. First, it improves the regularity of the hair surface, thus decreasing hair rugosity. Tested on bleached hair tresses, Xylishine™ C at 3% allowed it to almost go back to the rugosity of natural hair with a +82% reparation efficacy. Secondly, Xylishine™ C significantly increases shine (tested in-vivo, on Caucasian and Brazilian hair types, in rinse-off and leave-on applications). And finally, Xylishine™C reshapes the curls of tight curly hair (tested in-vivo on Brazilian hair) and brings significant benefits on anti-frizz (see picture 1), volume control (see picture 1) and curl definition.
Compliant with Chinese IECIC and IECSC regulations, XYLISHINE™ C is also COSMOS and Natrue approved, with a naturality rate of 99.7% according to ISO 16128. Feel free to contact a Seppic representative for more information.
Picture 1: Xylishine™ C at 3% instantly controls the volume and has an anti-frizz action in both standard and extreme climate conditions vs. Placebo.
