The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 awards being presented during the Society’s 78th Annual Scientific Meeting, December 11-13, 2024, at the JW Marriott LA Live in Los Angeles, CA.

YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD, sponsored by Surfatech: Recognizing the Best Paper by a young scientist, under the age of 40, presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Christopher Kreuger, PhD (Beiersdorf) for the SCC77 presentation, Next Generation Risk Assessments: Advancing Safety Assessment of Cosmetic Ingredients without Animal Testing.
HANS A. SCHAEFFER AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the Most Innovative paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Dr. Hang Ma (University of Rhode Island) for the SCC77 presentation entitled, Ferroptosis- A New Perspective for Physiologically Relevant Antioxidant Activity of Natural Products in Skin Protection: A Case Study of Cannabinoids.
SHAW MUDGE AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the Best Paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting, this award will be presented to Dr. Nadine Pernodet (The Estée Lauder Companies) for the SCC77 presentation entitled, The Future of Skincare: Harnessing Epigenetics, from Anti-Aging to Age Reversal.
SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS AWARD, sponsored by Hallstar: Recognizing the Best Paper presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting that made the greatest scientific contribution to knowledge in the field of protecting against or ameliorating damage to human skin caused by exposure to UV radiation, this award will be presented to Jennifer Marsh, PhD (Procter & Gamble) for the SCC77 presentation entitled, Delivering Hair Care Benefits from Botanicals.
ALAN B. & JEANETTE BLACK AWARD, sponsored by Presperse: Recognizing the best paper on sustainable formulation technology presented at the preceding SCC Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science, this award will be presented to Cara Eaton (Croda), for the SCC77 presentation entitled, Carbon in the Supply Chain: A Case Study on Methodology Development for Measurement of Impact.
JOSEPH P. CIAUDELLI AWARD, sponsored by Croda: Recognizing the best article appearing in the Journal of Cosmetic Science on the subject of hair care technology, this award will be presented to authors Masato Yoshida (Milbon), Ryo Maruyama (Milbon) and Asao Yamauchi (Osaka Industrial Technology Research Institute) for the article entitled, Repairing Bleach-Damaged Hair by Treating With Polyphenol in the Presence of Cu (II) Ions, published in JCS 2023 | Volume 74 No. 3.
DES GODDARD AWARD, sponsored by SCC: Recognizing the most innovative paper on the topic of polymer science related to cosmetics or personal care presented at the preceding Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science, this award will be presented to Casey Posner (University of Toledo) for the SCC77 presentation entitled, Transfer-resistant lipsticks: are bio-based film formers effective substitutes for synthetic film formers?.
