• The new BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramide for promoting a healthy skin barrier
  • BergaSoft mild surfactants and BergaCare emollients for natural rinse-off and leave-on applications
  • Wide range of further cosmetic raw materials for customers in the “DACH” region

At this year’s SEPAWA congress in Berlin (stand no. C422), Berg + Schmidt will present fascinating new raw materials for the skin care and skin protection segment. The focus will be on the new BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramide, whose skin-identical composition offers a natural solution to strengthen the skin barrier. They complement the existing range of intelligent delivery systems.

BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramide – immediate care for maintaining an intact skin barrier

Berg + Schmidt has extended its range to include the new BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramides and will now present these in Berlin. SmartLipids are transport systems for lipophilic actives that are embedded in a defined matrix of solid and liquid lipids. Even in the finished product, they stabilize the active ingredient and protect it against physical damage. Depending on the nature of the lipid matrix and the requirements of the formulation, the active substance diffuses into the skin over a defined period. Increased bioavailability and good adhesion to the skin enhance the product’s efficacy significantly. Besides semi-occlusive film formation by the lipid particles, the composition of BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramide offers still more advantages. Ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids are natural components of the horny layer. With these components, the lipid matrix of the individual particles is now able to simulate the skin barrier – all based on natural raw materials!

Special features of the BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramide are their high ceramide loading and their easy handling and incorporation in products. The ready-to-use aqueous suspension can be added to the formulation in a cold process or after cold stirring.

Technical Sales Manager Kristin Köhler from Berg + Schmidt will explain how the intelligent, multifunctional transport systems of the BergaCare SmartLipids Ceramide are able to strengthen the skin barrier, and how they can be used in cosmetic formulations, in a lecture entitled “Small, but smart – Your submicron bodyguards: Boosting the skin barrier with ceramide delivery systems” at 11 am on 30 October, Room 2.

BergaSoft mild surfactants and BergaCare emollients: green and sustainable strategies for the skin and hair

In Berlin, Berg + Schmidt will also present its range of natural surfactants and emollients. Cleansing and care of the skin, especially the hands, is becoming more and more important at this time. This is resulting in a demand for intelligent but nevertheless mild and sustainable strategies. Hand washing involves both cleansing and subsequent care to ensure a healthy skin barrier. Conditioning substances and surfactants are essential. Besides ensuring good washing performance, the latter must also meet the demands of the market in respect of mildness and ecological compatibility. To meet these requirements, Berg + Schmidt offers its BergaSoft mild surfactants; these are sulphate-free and non-ethoxylated but are nevertheless exceptional for their excellent foaming characteristics.

For the different skin care concepts, BergaCare FG 5 and BergaCare FG Olive offer the ideal solution. These two natural alternatives to silicone are synergistic mixtures of various conditioning ester oils and squalane. The selected combinations of lipophilic substances ensure rapid penetration and contribute to a pleasant and soothing skin feeling.

Further constituents of the skin barrier are phospholipids. Usually obtained from sunflower or soy lecithin, these are particularly rich in the essential fatty acids linoleic acid and choline. In dermocosmetic formulations they serve to produce liposomes, nanoemulsions or oleogels. Fractionated phosphatidylcholine offers still more interesting cosmetic properties that can be used by formulators, especially for developing certified natural cosmetics. Hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine forms bilamellar structures that offer both rheological and sensory benefits in conditioning emulsions. The BergaSom range contains just such PC fractions in different concentrations and with Cosmos certification.

Besides its cosmetic specialities, Berg + Schmidt will present a wide range of basic raw materials such as fatty alcohols, fatty acids, fatty-acid esters, castor oil derivatives and shea butter at the SEPAWA congress. All for its customers in the DACH region.
