Roelmi HPC, starting from its deep knowledge of probiotics, has developed different approaches to interact with localized microbiomes. First, by investigating specific interactions of probiotics for nutraceutical applications and second by exploring cutting-edge technologies for a new era of ingredients applications on microbiota.

With a strong basis on bio-fermentation techniques, ROELMI HPC has isolated, characterized and subsequently clinically tested probiotic strains with high added value in the nutraceutical industry. As a step forward, ROELMI HPC moved to a different market, from nutraceutical to cosmetics, designing specific ingredients targeting the skin ecosystem. First by developing ingredients aiming to rebalance the skin microbiota affected by external stresses like air pollution or salty/chlorinated water, then by using tyndallized probiotics thanks to their defense-boosting effect and molecular biomimetism properties.

Targeting modern cosmetics, a new ally in skin microbiota care ingredients design has been created. Roelmi HPC is presenting the brand-new active ingredient of its biotech portfolio: EquiBiotics LRh. It is a probiotic-derived ingredient obtained by tyndallization process of L. rhamnosus LRH020, selected for its strain-specific activity focused on protection from skin pathogens and modulation of the immune response. The tyndallization technology is the process by which strains are subjected to a particular gentle-heat treatment that "inactivates" them, thus making them unable to metabolize and reproduce. This process keeps the whole cellular structure of the microorganism preserved, allowing the creation of a cross-talk communication interface with skin cells and the microorganisms that live in symbiosis with it. The skin microbiota care represents the Equibiotics LRh approach to beauty routine in which the key is to promote a balanced ecosystem while preventing or restoring the natural harmony between skin barrier and its microbiota.

The ingredient demonstrates high performing efficacy towards multifactorial aggressive agents such as UV rays, chemical agents also helping avoid pathogens colonization. Thanks to their “prebiotic” effect, tyndallized probiotics become nourishment and metabolic support for resident microbiota growth.
