Education – Continuing Education – Promoting Young Talent

Robert Fischer

As early as 1899, Hans Ziolkowsky, the publisher and owner at that time of the publishing house “Verlag für chemische Industrie”, was contemplating ways to promote young talent in the soap-making and personal care industry. Consequently, Hans Ziolkowsky decided to establish an “Exploratory and Teaching Institute for the Promotion of the Soap-Making Trade” using his own financial resources. On October 18, 1899, the first course was held in the school’s classrooms and laboratories in Augsburg. The training rooms were equipped with specially made apparatus, kettles, etc., on a smaller scale, and a comprehensive selection of raw materials and fragrances thanks to sponsors from the industry. The headmaster (principal) made an interesting statement at the start of the first course:

Quote: “Teachers must focus the subject matter on what is absolutely necessary, and students must demonstrate their utmost diligence.
