Sustain with Ability Everyone's Problem, But Nobody's Responsibility. Sustainability is the capacity to endure. For humans, sustainability is the long-term maintenance of responsibility, which has environmental, economic, and social dimensions, and encompasses the concept of stewardship, the responsible management of resource use. Companies are more and more measured and they measure themselves, how they can follow up the tasks of a sustainable development. The Definition of the Brundtland Commission, United Nations is as follows “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Part I „The Global Challenge", Chapter 3 „Sustainable Development", Article 27.)
Today innovation and sustainability have an extraordinarily high status in all industry branches. Also in the area of cosmetic ingredients the subject sustainability becomes an important sales criteria. In many companies sustainability management already became an inherent part that describes the integration of concepts and instruments to improve the social, ecological and economic aspects in the organization management.
In the Global Ingredients and Formulation Guide 2012 we will comment the subject sustainability on all aspects like new product ideas, raw material sourcing and processing, production processes, safety and efficacy evaluations, formulations and marketing. All single steps in the cosmetic field are incorporated from the ingredient sourcing up to the sales process to consumers and they show the huge engagement of the cosmetic industry.
