It all began with Alwin Engelhardt, who in 1874 founded the “Seifensieder-Zeitung” (in English: soap boiler newspaper) in Leipzig. Unfortunately, little is known about the founder himself. He authored various articles on soap production in the early years of the journal and wrote and edited the Handbook of Practical Soap Manufacturing. In 1887, the publishing rights were acquired by the Lampert company from Augsburg, and only eight years later, Hans Ziolkowsky took over the publishing rights to the Seifensieder-Zeitung.
