Discover the Players of LipoTrue at in-cosmetics Global 2024, Artificial Intelligence and Protein Fragments
Interview with Andrea Esplugas
Marketing Manager, LipoTrue
You launched two new ingredients at in-Cos. Please tell us more on the name and function.
Firstly, at In-Cosmetics Global 2024 we have introduced a new line in our technology portfolio: Fragments Remastered, from Wild plants as biofactories technology. This innovative technology allows to produce proteins and protein fragments through plants grown in vertical farming. Within the Fragments remastered line, which already has two biomimetic collagen fragments Col-4-frag remastered™ and Col-frag remastered™, we present a new addition, Frag-Brillin remastered™, a biomimetic fragment of fibrillin that rebuilds elastic resilience and promotes cellularity and skin remodeling. But that's not all, as part of our commitment to pioneering skincare solutions, we are thrilled to introduce SP[AI]3™, a revolutionary active ingredient discovered through Artificial Intelligence to help to improve acne prone skin.
How has AI helped you to optimize the peptide SPAI3?
The development of SP[AI]3TM shows the power of In silico design and computational artificial intelligence in peptide optimization. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on optimizing peptides for binding to a single target, SP[AI]3TM has been engineered to achieve optimal binding to not one, but three distinct targets involved in sebum, pore and inflammation.
Your second launch involves mRNA technology. Can you share more on this specific research for anti-aging?
Yes of course. Utilizing mRNA technology adapted from the pharmaceutical industry, LipoTrue employs N. benthamiana, a plant model system for transient expression to produce biomimetic to human proteins and protein fragments. This innovative approach, involving synthetic mRNA as a template, enables the production of unique vegan protein and protein fragments for cosmetic applications, mimicking the action human’s and modulating endogenous protein production, thus offering anti-aging benefits. N. benthamiana's ability to perform post-translational modifications is crucial for protein activity compared to other production methods. It is a sustainable technology which encompasses a closed environment where conditions are optimally controlled and without the use of pesticides. The plants are grown in biodegradable cellulose plant pods in vertical farming, which optimizes space & resources. The installation of solar panels, water and soil recycling improves the use of resources. The plants are grown using red LED light – similar to that employed by NASA - to enhance protein production in plants.
