Title: I have a balanced scalp: the microbiome-friendly way to care
Abstract: A healthy scalp is the basis for beautiful hair.
With 650 cm2, the scalp’s surface houses an average of 100,000 hairs. The most abundant bacterial species on the scalp are Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis and its main fungal inhabitants are different Malassezia species. In their healthy, balanced state, the microorganisms produce essential amino acids, enzymes, bacteriocines and synthesize B-vitamins needed for the production of keratin, a fundamental protein for healthy hair growth.
However, when microbial dysbiosis is the cause, we recognize the essential role of a balanced scalp microbiome for healthy scalp and hair.
Luckily, more and more manufacturers formulate their products with the microbiome in mind, aiming to create Microbiome-friendly products that leave the balance of the scalp intact.
