Abstract

The 10th International Fresenius Conference on “Detergents and Cleaning Products” took place in the Atrium Hotel Mainz with almost 200 participants. The lecture topics reported on actual trends and drivers in the European household laundry and care market, on performance testings of machine and hand dish detergents, on an update on disinfectants under the BPR options and of the revision of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Current issues in laundry hygiene at low washing temperatures and the occurrence of ß-lactamases in washing machines as well as of microbial loads in food-associated appliances were discussed. By means of a model for a smelly washing machine, the appearance of malodor in washing machines can be simulated, so that by microbiota analysis a strain selection and identification of fungi and bacteria becomes possible.
