Abstract
Cosmetic products must be safe and harmless to health from the time they are placed on the market until they are used by the customer. The European Cosmetics Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 sets the legal framework for this. This health safety also includes the microbiological quality of a product. The ISO 17516 as the state of the art specifies limit values for this.
This article should help you to interpret microbiological test results of cosmetic products and to be able to react accordingly in case of a positive result.
