Abstract

Despite the global economic recession, China’s cosmetics market has been growing steady in tandem with its burgeoning economic success and the rapidly rising of living of its people over the past years. Data released by the China statistics agency shows that total volume of retail sales of cosmetic products reached RMB 222.2 billion in 2016, achieving year-on-year growth of 8.3 %. Thus, cosmetic companies around the world have taken notice and are trying to figure how they can tap into this promising market.
This article offers an overview on the new cosmetic ingredient (NCI) regulations in China to allow the reader to properly understand the main legislative critical issues pertaining to the cosmetic industry. The article will offer some references as well as more in depth analysis of the legislation regulating the NCI registration procedure and testing requirements. Further this article will highlight the status quo of the supervision and the challenges for company applicants. Finally, updates on regulation recently will be included to give you more trends and prospects in future.
